Windmill

Windmill: A term at one time used to describe the action of a propeller when revolving freely under the forward airspeed of an aeroplane but without engine power. Also a colloquial term for the rotor of a gyroplane.

A windmill is basically an airscrew or propeller working in reverse, such that the air flowing over the sails is deflected by them, and exerts a force on the sails pushing them around.

Obstacles, such as tall towers and windmill farms, must also be noted and considerations made along the selected route of flight.

Note that for smaller Re (say 10,000 to 400,000, which is the range for radio controlled models and smaller windmills), other lows apply; however, we will not consider these numbers in this present set of articles which deal with light planes.

If you're Tiarks and you have the two-seat Europa as a starting point and a penchant for sword fighting with windmills, the answer is easy. Just take on the certified aircraft builders on their own turf.

Multi-channel radio receiver used to check for interference on model radio control frequencies.

Using a windmill and a pressure gauge, you can measure the velocity and pressure anywhere in the air, near the wing or elsewhere. The circulatory flow set up by the wing creates low pressure in a huge region extending far above the wing.

During this descend the throttle is fully closed and there is no thrust coming from the propeller. Actually the propeller is driven by the airflow (windmilling) and even this creates some drag.

-Do the accepted engine restart routine: mixture rich, boost on, change tanks, crank it with the starter if it's not windmilling.

FEATHERING - In the event of engine failure, the process of adjusting a controllable-pitch propeller to a pitch position where the blade angle is about 90° to the plane of rotation in order to stop windmilling.
FEDERAL AIR REGULATION (FAR) ...

had appeared on hot-air balloons even before 1800, but these were all hand-driven and ineffective in providing control in even the slightest wind. In most instances, the propellers used were taken off ships and often looked like small windmills.
