The 1-3-1 zone defense has the advantage of being able to apply pressure on the outside arc and high post, and allows for some trapping. The major weakness is when the offense attacks from the corners and into the low post.
This 1-3-1 Zone is a ball defense whereby 3 players are always between the ball and goal. All players move with the ball.
Players 5 & 4 are the two tallest and best rebounders on the team. Player 3 should be your your next best rebounder.

The One-Three-One Zone consists of a point station at the top of the circle, three players position acrossed the free throw line and one player in front of the basket.
3. 1-3-1 zone. This defense is exceptionally strong in the post area and therefore a good defense when playing against a strong post player. It can also be weak against corner shooters.

1-3-1 ZONE - PG is between top of key and free throw line. SG, C, and SF form a line across paint between the block and the free throw line. The PF is back closer to basket. Again, walk it and make sure they know how to play their positions.
The 1-3-1 zone defense is a defensive basketball formation. It was originally utilized by Hall of Fame coach Clair Bee.
the 1-3-1 zone has several flaws.It is a poor rebounding zone defense and to attack it you must hit the open players in the short corners like they did here with the 4 player.Allways keep 2 guards up top against the defensive point.
If you play the 1-3-1 zone the way it was designed to be played it is efficient and frustrating for the other team.
