Block
The block has two meanings in the game of basketball. As a verb, it means to deflect the shot of an offensive player. As a noun, it means the area directly under the rim, designated by two hash marks along the outside of the "key".

The block is a buffer area painted on the lane lines separating offensive and defensive players during a free throw attempt. Additionally, it is a very strategic area during the game.
Blocked shot: A shot that a defender prevents from scoring by deflecting the ball.
Blocking: Penalty on a defender for stepping in front of an offensive player to impede progress.
Blocked Shot (Rejection): When a defender legally blocks a shot that is going upward and no longer touching the offensive players hands.
Brick: A generally bad shot that bounces hard off the rim or backboard with no chance of going in.
Blocking: An illegal personal contact which impedes the progress of an opponent with or without the basketball.
Charging: An illegal personal contact caused by pushing or moving into an opponent's torso.

The block out after a shot is a defensive fundamental. It is my opinion that few high school or college players consistently execute this fundamental.

Block (or Rejection) - Occurs on a shot in which a defender swats the ball away before it descends toward the basket.
Bounce Pass - A pass made by skipping the ball off the court to a teammate.
Blocked Shot also called a Rejection: A block happens when an offensive player is taking a shot and a defensive player hits, slaps or gets his hand on the ball so it is deflected away from the basket. The ball must be arching up to the basket.

X4 and X5 double-team the inbounds pass in the corner if the ball is even with or below the block.
