Blocked Shot - When a defensive basketball player makes contact with the basketball while another player is shooting the ball.
Bounce pass - In this pass, the basketball bounces about two-thirds of the way from the passer to the receiver.

 


Blocked shot: A shot that a defender prevents from scoring by deflecting the ball.
Blocking: Penalty on a defender for stepping in front of an offensive player to impede progress.

Blocked Shot (Rejection): When a defender legally blocks a shot that is going upward and no longer touching the offensive players hands.
Brick: A generally bad shot that bounces hard off the rim or backboard with no chance of going in.

Blocked Shot also called a Rejection: A block happens when an offensive player is taking a shot and a defensive player hits, slaps or gets his hand on the ball so it is deflected away from the basket. The ball must be arching up to the basket.

Avoiding the Blocked Shot
Generally it is "help" defenders who block the shot rather than the player guarding the shooter, so be aware of them.

air ball An unblocked shot that fails to hit the rim or backboard. Does not reset the shot clock. air pass A pass that goes straight through the air to the receiver. See also bounce pass.

When the shot goes up, keep an eye on the offensive players and block out. Zone defense should offer a rebounding advantage. If you are getting out-rebounded within your zone, you have big problems.

He must be an aggressive rebounder and lead the way in blocked shots. He needs to be a little arrogant with a streak of meanness. He is king of the paint. He must prove by his manner and actions that this territory is his.

DEFENSE: Stress that the defender will not try to block the shot (we give 5 pushups for blocked shots and 15 pushups for fouling the jump shooter), but will instead block out the shooter and hold his block out.

Blocked Shot: that shot is down before it reaches the basket.
Blocking: a defender physically impeding the progress of an offensive player.

This split second in this case is the time saved by catching the ball efficiently prior to shooting, which could well be the difference between two points and a disrupted or blocked shot. Players love to score, so this should get their attention.
