Breaking Traps
I had the question posed to me via e mail on discussing how to beat the half court and or full court trap from both a team perspective, and how to handle being trapped or avoid being trapped on the individual level.
Fast break is an offensive strategy in basketball. In a fast break, a team attempts to move the ball up court and into scoring position as quickly as possible, so that the defense is outnumbered and does not have time to set up.

Run the Floor!
Always try to outrun your opponent on the fast break. Worst case scenario you make your defender work harder than they want to. Best case, you get a wide open gorrilla dunk.

Breakdown Drills
The preceding four major drills are used by Coach Smith to teach most of #20 Defense needs. He does break these four drills down even further to teach the basic individual skills needed to properly execute this defense.
The numbered break has five (numbered) options. In practice, we run all five options up and down the court.

Q: Alright, could you break down the rules for me concerning hand checking or using a forearm in post defense in order to maintain your established area of the floor (as opposed to pushing the offensive player out)?

Though most teams would prefer to play the up-tempo, fast-break transition game that personifies today's basketball, the "Set Play" is the staple of the game. Set plays use teamwork and screening actions in an effort to create good shots.
A good rebounder who can outlet the ball to the guard can start a fast break on the way to a score. This is a valuable asset to a team. Get the rebound, pivot away from the defense, and outlet to your guard for the fast break.
