Carrying - You may not dribble the ball with both hands at once or turn the ball over in your hands. You'll be called for carrying if you do. This is also called "palming".

 


Carrying the ball - also called œpalming;€ a violation committed by a dribbler that involves placing the dribbling hand under the ball and shortly holding or carrying it while dribbling.

Carrying the Ball: This is when a player moves his hand under the ball and then brings his hand back over the top while he is dribbling. This is not allowed and the ball goes to the other team.

Carrying - A violation in which the ball handler momentarily places his/her hand under the ball while dribbling.
Catch & face - Technique for receiving a pass and then squaring up to the basket; similar to the 'triple-threat position.' ...

Also known as "carrying," palming is a rarely called offensive violation. It is when you are dribbling and take more than one step while the ball is in your hand.
It can be prevented by dribbling the ball at the waist or below.

Palming: See carrying the ball.
Pass fake: See ball fake.
Passing lane: An imaginary line from the player with the ball to a teammate. If a defender is in the way, the passing lane is closed.

After all, your child has some extra baggage the other kids aren't carrying - you! This is a time to wear your parental hat. A common way coaches help parents is to emphasize things to the player that the parent can't seem to get across at the time.

The ball can be advanced by carrying it (a running play) or by throwing it to a teammate (a passing play).

The ball is released toward the basket with a lifting rotation of the forearm and wrist of the shooting hand, imparting a soft carrying spin. Sighting must take into account both the spin and lower arc. Rhythm and follow-through are essential.

Early preparation, carrying hands, understanding shot selection and taking what the defence gives you are areas that can never have enough time or emphasis placed on them.

Others: Official points at his foot to indicate deliberate kicking of the ball; official extends and rotates right arm, palm uppermost, to indicate carrying of the ball during a dribble.
VIOLATIONS
Tavelling - moving with the ball without dribbling.

If the ball is above your hand when dribbling and you hand comes from underneath and over it to push it back down this is called Carrying as the players hand must always be above the ball when dribbling.

A violation in which a player moves his hand under the ball and scoops it while dribbling. Also: carrying the ball.
Pass ...

Palming: A foul where the offensive player controlling the ball moves his hand under the ball, essentially carrying it.

A player's hand cannot be under the ball while dribbling; doing so is known as carrying the ball. A team, once having established ball control in the front half of the court, may not return the ball to the backcourt.
