Cherry picking -If a player is "cherry picking", it means he is grabbing a REBOUND above the rim. This can happen if an ALLY-OOP is not initiated quickly enough.
Cherry Picking or Playing Smart?
I'm looking for ways to get my PG to look up the court. I heard a coach at a clinic discuss his philosphy of making teams pay for not getting back on defense. One player (usually the 2) had no box out responsibilities.
You basically don't play defense, so that if the other team misses, you are all by yourself for an easy lay-up. Needles to say, you won't make many friends if cherry picking is a part of your arsenal.
It is especially strong in the rebounding triangle area. It is also an excellent defense to use if you want to fast break as it allows one man, usually X1, to break as soon as the offensive team shoots the ball. This is often called, "cherry picking.
the defense is outnumbered and does not have time to set up. There are various styles of the fast break and the fast break attack is the best method of providing action and quick scores.[1] A fast break may be caused as the result of cherry picking.
