Cut-throat
Break up your team into teams of three. This is basically a 3 on 3 game. The team on offense must pass 3 times before taking a shot. All passes must be a bounce pass unless the pass is dumped in the post.

 


Pocket Cut
In this diagram, the coach has dribbled in order to allow more time for a scoring opportunity for #1 to develop. Player #5 helps obstruct the defender's route to the elbow. Teammate #1 catches the ball at the elbow and shoots.

Starting Positions
1 - First Cutter (has the ball).
Sets up about 6 feet from sideline, higher then the three point line.
2 - Second Cutter.

Different Leagues: Just because they were cut from one league, does not mean that there are other leagues offering the same thing. Look around for ads and contact places.

Cut Off the Screen and Score!
Learning the fundamentals of basketball screen plays is an important part of your offensive skills.

Cut: A quick movement by an offensive player to elude an opponent or to receive the ball.
Dead ball: Occurs whenever the whistle blows to stop play and after a field goal, but before the opponent gains possession of the ball.

Cut: A quick offensive move by a player willing to get an open position for an eventual shot.
Dead-ball foul: A foul committed while the ball is not in play and the clock is stopped.

Cut
A quick change in direction, to elude a defender or find an open area on the floor. As a verb, to make a cut.
Cylinder ...

Cut - a quick movement by an offensive player to elude an opponent or to receive the ball.
Cylinder - the imaginary area directly above the basket where goaltending or basket interference can occur.

"Cut and Double"
 
We use the "cut and double" tactic along the sidelines. X5 will try to force O1 to speed-dribble up the sideline, and will then sprint ahead of and "cut" (stop) O1 somewhere along the sideline...

SPLIT CUT ON INBOUNDS PASS:
Whether you screen to get open or cut to get open, you must decide where you want your cutters to be to put the most pressure on the defense.

Pass and Cut
Two lines: post players on the block and guards on the same side wing. Have post players take turns posting each other up.

A penetrating cut - If, as you end your walk, the opponent guarding you does not move with you, you have an open cutting lane to the basket (see diagram #1).

Cut: A quick offensive move by a player trying to get free for a pass.
Denial Defense: aggressive individual defense where the defensive player works hard to keep the offensive player from receiving a pass.

A quick movement by an offensive player without the ball to gain an advantageous position is a cut.

Q: My team had just made a basket to cut our deficit by 3 with 4 seconds left. We called time out to set up the press. Their player recieved the ball from the ref, we had their only man up double teamed.

Players need to pass,cut,and run hard during this drill.Run at game speed.
Do layups first,then you can do shots last ,just place a cone from the spot you want them to shoot from.

The Program : ...

Players need to learn the fundamentals of offense. The greatest plays ever dreamed cannot work if players do not pass, cut or communicate well. The worst plays ever conceived will work if players know how to cut, pass, and communicate.

Part one of the Princeton offense is a high post entry and a strong side over the top cut. In fact, everything runs through the high post entry and through down screens.

Countdown
During a the scrimmage I would start counting down from 10 (10-9-8-7-6 ...) Giving the players an idea what the end of a quarter is like, it cut down on the those wild half court shots with 5 seconds to go.

The defense players position themselves to block these shots. Offense players move around the basket and cut past defense players (abruptly changing direction to get past the defense) until they can set up a reasonably clear shot.
