Double Dribble.
A violation that occurs when a player either dribbles the ball with two hands at the same time or dribbles, then stops or "picks up" his/her dribble, and dribbles again.

Double dribble signal
The last referee signal to get into the top 10 of dancing moves.
If a player dribbles then stops and starts dribbling again without passing or getting it knocked away.

Double Dribble - Once a player stops dribbling, he or she must pass or shoot the ball before dribbling again. Also, players may not have two hands on the ball at the same time while dribbling. Either violation of this rule results in a turnover.

A violation in which a player resumes dribbling after having stopped a dribble series, or dribbles the ball with both hands simultaneously.

Double Dribble: when one person dribbles, stops and picks up the ball and starts to dribble again or dribble with two hands simultaneously.

It would only be illegal (double dribble) if the player deliberately let go of the ball and then recovered it after the bounce without it being touched by an opponent — by definition, that is a dribble because it is a controlled act.
