1 has followed down the court as quickly as he can. When he see that there is no pass to 4, he takes his man away from the ball, then changes direction sharply to use 2's screen.

A skill used to move the ball up and down the court, use up time, escape from defenders, get closer to the basket or to teammates.

Every time players get the ball, they should square up and look down the court before initiating transition.

A good variation we have discussed is to simply let your forwards bring the ball down the court and start the offense. Have your guards go down and line up at the forward spots as shown in Diagram 124.

Attempt to run if possible; however, do not run helter-skelter down the court and shoot the bad shot.

Basketball requires you to run, and often sprint, up and down the court during the course of the game. Running a few miles a day and working on your sprints keeps your endurance up so that you are never too tired.

I get in a stance like I'm ready to dribble down the court. I'll tell the fastest player, 'I'll bet I can get this basketball down the floor quicker than you can.' He will say, 'Oh yeah, right Coach.' I then say, 'Ready?

Be it from a pass off the forwards from their own basket or if they are bringing the ball down the court after a basket is scored; they are usually the players who initiate the set plays laid down by the team coach.

Continue in this fashion down the court. As you begin to feel more comfortable doing the drill, start to pick up your pace. Ideally, you will eventually be able to sprint down the floor, bouncing both balls with equal skill.

This isn't always, but most of the time it is: Point gaurd is just going up and down the court. Shooting gaurds are trailing the Point guard, Small and Power forwards are on the wings, or the sides, and the Center is in the center of the court.

Be sure to develop your confidence in doing this technique without looking at the ball and dribbling well with either hand. Once this fundamental is mastered, getting up and down the court quickly will be a breeze.
