Drive to the basket: Move quickly toward the basket while dribbling the ball.

 


Drive to the basket - to move rapidly toward the basket with the ball.
Dunk - when a player close to the basket jumps and strongly throws the ball down into it; an athletic, creative shot used to intimidate opponents.

Start with a line of players with balls under the basket, as well as 3 lines of players on the perimeter.

Our team goal is to get a quality shot every time down the floor. I tell my players that anytime that they can create a shot that is better than our offense provides for them -- do it.

Use - sets up the defender for the offensive player to drive to the basket... Head/Shoulder - pull upwards and back to make the defender think the player is taking a shot.

Imagine your opponent attempting to drive to the basket, and adjust your defensive position by moving at an angle, but continuing to do so laterally.

If you dribble the basketball, only dribble for a good reason. Good reasons to dribble are: to dribble the ball up the floor, to drive to the basket, to get in better position to make a pass, or to relieve some defensive pressure.
Run Hard ...

However, a good jump shot and the ability to score off a drive to the basket are still valuable skills. A point guard will often use his or her ability to score in order to augment his or her effectiveness as a decision maker and play maker.
