Drop step drill
Instructions
3 people start in the drill. 1 ball is placed at the first line above the block on one side and the same on the other block.

Player #1 starts under the basket. He/she sprints out, jump stops, and retrieves the ball lying on the left block.

Also called a "reverse pivot", the drop step is a move in which the player posting up takes a back step on the side of a defender behind him and spins to that side to gain leverage.

Drop Step: When you need to move backwards or diagonally backwards, your lead foot moves back and you push off with your back foot.

A move on which a player, back to the basket, takes a step back on the side of a defender behind him, then turns and drives past him on that side.

Drop Step - When the post player is played on either side the big man catches the ball and drops foot furthest from the defender right to the basket. He will pin his man, keeping the defender on his back.

1 will drop step hard and score.

1 will now run the same from the left side.

Then make a drop step with the foot nearest the baseline.
Hook the defender's foot with your foot and lean into his hip with your hip and forearm. This will hold him in his spot and keep him from going around you.

Fake Spin, Drop Step - Inverted Post Position
Another effective move from the Inverted Post Position is the fake spin/drop step.

(This is a good time to emphasize the fundamentals of a proper post entry pass if you have not already done so.) The guard will follow the pass to position himself for the weak side rebound while the post player practices his drop step move.

Basketball Move #7) Drop Step
Use this when guarded high. Make a rear turn with the foot closest to your defender. Make a step toward the hoop with your non-pivot foot so you seal off the defender.

Toe-pivot and make a drop step for foot room
Heel-pivot and turn your whole body 90 degrees to the left
Hold the basketball straight up in a way that makes it farthest from your defender ...

From this position the player should make a quick drop step without over-extending his or her leg so he or she will be balanced. These are natural techniques and this is the way the body should be trained.

Drive: forceful action to the basket while in possession of the ball.
Drop Step: the flow of this motion is-- step back from a defender, turn and drive on past him/her.

Drive: To attack the basket by dribbling hard at it.
Drop step: A low post move when an offensive player with her back to the basket swings one leg around the defender and uses it as a pivot foot to gain inside position.
