Five-second Rule - A closely guarded player holding the ball has five seconds to either pass or advance the ball toward the hoop. When called, possession of the ball goes to the opposite team.

 


Five-second rule - a player who has the ball must play it within five seconds or a violation will be called against that player.

Five-Second Rule
1) A rule that a closely-guarded player cannot hold the ball for more than five seconds without dribbling, passing or shooting. 2) A rule that a player has five seconds to inbound the ball on a throw-in.
