Foul: A personal foul is a player foul which involves illegal contact with an opponent while the basketball is live, which hinders an opponent from performing normal defensive and offensive movements.

Foul Trouble - Players who accumulate too many fouls during the course of a game are said to be in foul trouble.

Foul:
An attempt to unfairly disadvantage an opponent through physical contact. These are most commonly committed by defensive players; however, they can be committed by offensive players as well.

Foul - Actions by players which break the rules but are not floor violations.
Hand-Checking - Using the hands to check the progress of an offensive player when that player is in front of the defender who is using the hands.

Foul lane - the painted area bordered by the end line and the foul line, outside which players must stand during a free-throw; also the area an offensive basketball player cannot spend more than 3-seconds at a time in.

Foul: A violation. Often an illegal contact between two players.
Foul line: The line 15' from the backboard and parallel to the baseline from which players shoot free throws.

Foul shot -A basket shot from the FREE-THROW LINE, rewarded to a player if he was fouled on a SHOT attempt or if the other team is in the penalty. Each foul shot that goes in is worth 1 point.

Foul shot - an unguarded shot taken from behind the free-throw line after a foul. If successful, the shot counts one point.

The Foul Line
The Key
The key is 12 feet wide, and is the same for all basketball courts. The backboard extends 4 feet out over the baseline into the key.

Five-foul rule
If a player commits five fouls, either personal or technical, they must leave the game and can not return.
They can be replaced by a substitute.

Five Foul Rule- this rule is so that you can only be aloud five fouls in a game.
Over and Back- is when you come onto your side of the court and then cross back over to the other side.

Team foul - this is called when a team has committed five fouls of any kind in any one period. The opposing team is awarded with two free throws.

Fifth Foul by any player

A player who commits his/her fifth personal foul must leave the game. He/she may be replaced by another player.

Draw a foul: When an offensive player initiates contact with a defender while moving towards the basket to purposefully draw a foul call and receive a free shot.

Double foul: Two opposing players commit fouls against each other at approximately the same time.

2) repetition - have them get a system so they do the same thing on each shot (ie. 3 dribbles and shoot, etc.)
3) practice ft shooting several times ...

A foul is striking at the ball with the fist, violation of Rules 3, 4, and such as described in Rule 5.

A foul will be called for illegal screening when there is movement by the screener during the actual pick. A player must remain stationary when actual contact is made with the defender.

The foul-out structure used to be similar in the NCAA, but a few years ago (in the early '90s if my memory serves me correctly), they adopted a philosophy more like FIBA (International rules). In FIBA, a player foul is a player foul.

Double foul - either a held ball or simultaneous personal fouls by opposing players.

Offensive foul: A rule violation committed by a member of the team playing offense.
One-and-one: In U.S. college basketball, once a team accumulates seven fouls in a half, the other team enters the "one-and-one".

Technical Foul - Called against any player or coach for unsportsmanlike conduct such as swearing or arguing with a referee. A technical foul awards the other team at least one free throw and possession of the ball.

Watch a good foul shooter as he approaches the foul line. They usually begin the ritual of adjusting the feet and bouncing the ball (nearly always a set number of times).

No you cannot foul the inbounder. In the NBA, (Rule No. 12, Section II Article 5) a delay-of-game shall be called for a defender crossing the boundary line prior to the ball being released on a throw-in.

Charging: Foul called when an offensive player runs over a defender who has established position. Results in a turnover and one personal foul.

Technical foul: A violation, such as a player or coach using profanity, that results in the other team getting free throws and possession of the ball. Also called a "T," as in "T him up." ...

#3 comes up to foul line extended to receive a pass from #1.
#3 after receiving pass, TRIPLE THREAT POSITION, waits for #4 to come across lane to low block ball side looking for pass and #5 floats across lane looking for pass to high block.

  To replace a player who is in foul trouble. There are varying philosophies about how many fouls a player must make before he is removed.

The defender's presence above the foul line also ensures that nobody will be able to flash into the middle of the key from the opposite side of the floor, which is called the weak side of the floor.

Foul shots are worth 1 point on the scoreboard, field goals inside the three-point line=2 points and outside the three point boundary=3 points.

Station 1 line at the foul shot line extended. Station the other line directly underneath the rim. The kid underneath the rim rebounds the basketball and takes 2 hard dribbles up the center of the floor.

Dribble to the nearest foul line, and then return to the baseline. Dribble to the middle of the court, and then return to the baseline from which you started. Dribble to the farthest foul line, and then return to the baseline from which you started.

After the tenth TEAM personal foul in the half, the person fouled will be given two free throws commonly referred to as the Super Bonus.

When a player is shooting a foul shot, the remaining nine players on the court must stand in designated locations. They can stand in the blocks along the sides of the free-throw lane or back behind the free-throw shooter.

Full court variation. I would line the players up foul line extended, opposite of each other, stand underneath the basket and roll the ball out to the foul line.

Reaching in is a lazy way to play and often results in a foul. You are putting yourself off-balance and forcing your teammates to leave their players to cover yours. Instead, keep your knees bent and concentrate on containing your opponent.

If you are shooting outside, try to guess where the center of the foul line is. This guarantees you a level of alignment with the rim, helpful to your success.

Basic shots include the layup, the jump shot, the foul shot, and the hook shot. The layup is the easiest shot in basketball, taken directly under the basket.

Too many players practice free throw shooting when they are fresh and not focused. This drill will make a player have to hit their foul shots when they are tired and breathing hard and also make consequences for missing their free throws.
