Illegal Defense: When two defensive players are double-teaming an offensive player that does not have possession of the ball.

Illegal Defense
A rather nebulous rule that is called irregularly. It's designed to prevent the use of the zone defense; itıs more like a 3-second violation for the defense, in which no defender can stay in the lane for more than, well, 3 seconds.

During this period, an illegal defense violation was called when a defender was either guarding an area instead of a specific offensive player, or was double teaming an offensive player away from the ball.
