Instructions
One player stands underneath the rim to the left a bit and the other to the right a bit. Whoever has the ball in their hand dribbles up the full court with agression and speed and layups it.
A layup in basketball is a two-point shot attempt made by leaping from below, laying the ball up near the basket, and using one hand to bounce it off the backboard and into the basket.

Players pass the ball to a coach who places the ball in a chair. Players then sprint out to the chair making a jump stop and pick up the ball. Players make a reverse pivot and then execute a 1 dribble layup.

When first learning to shoot, the FOLLOW THRU should be the same as a regular shot. Your palm is facing the basket, with the ball coming off of the 1st two fingers.
Layup: Offensive move which consist in using one hand to drop the ball into the rim while driving to the basket.
Low post: The imaginary area at both sides of the key close to the basket.
2-Line Layup Drill
This classic drill has been around since basketball was invented, and is still a good drill for practicing lay-ups, both right and left-handed. See the diagram. There are two lines, a "shooting" line and a "rebounding" line.

A layup is simply a short range shot that usually hits gently off the backboard. Most of the time layups are preformed while running towards the basket.

Only if you don't mind players running in for layups while you are covering them. You need your weight on the balls of your feet all the time, so you can change direction and move quickly.
Basic shots include the layup, the jump shot, the foul shot, and the hook shot. The layup is the easiest shot in basketball, taken directly under the basket.
Start on the right side of the basket, while standing within layup range, go off of two feet and shoot a right handed layup.

Old school thinking says the team that makes the most layups wins. Offensive rebounds give you more layup opportunities. Modern trends have many teams relying on the three-point shot. The easiest three-point shot is a wide-open spot-up jumper.
Demonstrate correct form for shooting layups, jump shots and free throws. Have players practice these shots in the way you have just shown. Watch carefully as they shoot, and be prepared to offer feedback to each player.
Be sure you understand that becoming great at basketball shooting (whether it's making free throws, layups, 3-pointers, etc.) means putting in hours of practice time. Shooting is a skill.
