Offensive Foul
A personal foul committed by an offensive player. In the National Basketball Association and international amateur play, the ball is awarded to the opposing team for a throw-in.

 


Offensive Foul - Illegal contact, committed by an offensive player, after the ball is live.
Over-the-Back - Infringing on the vertical plane of, and making contact with, a player who is in position and attempting to rebound.

An offensive foul that is committed not when a player is shooting, but just when his team is in control of the ball. Also: Offense or Offensive Foul.

An offensive foul should never be called if the contact is with a secondary defensive player who has established a defensive position within a designated "restricted area" near the basket for the purpose of drawing an offensive foul.

d. An offensive foul is illegal contact, committed by an offensive player, after the ball is live.
e. A loose ball foul is illegal contact, after the ball is alive, when team possession does not exist.

offensive foul A rule violation committed by a member of the team playing offense.

Charging: An offensive foul which occurs when an offensive player runs into a defender who has established position.

team foul A personal foul is charged to the team as well as the player (except for an offensive foul in the National Basketball Association).

This is important in the NBA, since they don't count offensive fouls in the team foul count (for shooting penalty).

flop=a player that goes down with little contact in order to draw an offensive foul
brick=a shot with terrible form that results in a miss
prayer=a shot attemted from outside the normal range of a player usually with the clock running out ...

Celebrate on the floor as an offensive foul is called. It only hurts when they call you for blocking.

Teams can also lose points for:
Slow inbounds = -2 points
Turnover = -2 points
Offensive Foul = -2 points
Standing still = -2 points ...
