Officials: A Referee and an Umpire assisted by Table Officials (a Timekeeper, a Scorer, an Assistant Scorer and a 24 second Operator).
One (1) point: A goal scored from a free throw.
Officials: The referees who rule the game, stop and start play, and impose penalties for violations and fouls.
Open: Describes a player in an open position, unguarded by a defender and likely to receive a pass for an open shoot.

Officials: These are the people who are in charge of the game. These people include: the shot clock operator, the scorer, the time keeper and the referees.

Officials in the NCAA, NBA, Serie A (Italy), and Euroleague (Final Four series only, effective 2006) are required to use instant replay to assess whether a basket made at the end of a period was in fact before the game clock expired.

Try to be on good terms with the refs and introduce yourself and shake hands with them before the game. Most referees are good people who like and take an interest in kids just like you.

incidental contact: minor contact usually overlooked by officials. inside shooting: shots taken by a player near or under the basket.
As soon as a coach or a player says the game was affected by the officials, they have refused to accept responsibility for their own actions. Once a coach or player relinquishes control of their fate to an external factor, they are admitting defeat.
There are two of them, they wear grey shirts and black pants and sometimes they blow their whistles, run over to the table officials (scorer, clock-keeper, press etc.) and do that thing with their hands.
If the ball is in play when the injury occurs, the officials shall wait to stop the game until the team with the injury gets possession of the ball. Exception: when necessary to protect an injured player, the officials may stop play immediately.
Technical Foul - Misconduct that officials believe are detrimental to the game; can be assessed against team members on the floor or seated on the bench. penalized by a free-throw opportunity to the non-offending team; also called a "T".

Inside Shooting

If you slide or change your pivot point after you have the ball, officials call a walking violation. Your team loses the ball.
Here is how to practice pivoting:
1. Start with the left foot as pivot foot.
It will get pretty aggressive but let them play! Only call fouls when the players get too out of hand. This helps your big men to play through the little hacks and slaps they will get in games but the officials may not call.

Players may not use profanity, vulgarities, taunt, ridicule, point fingers at opponents or officials, make obscene gestures, or bait an opponent.
