Outside shot

Basketball Outside shootingOver and back

Outside Shot
A shot taken from some distance.
A violation on which a team has brought the ball into the frontcourt and then lets it return to the backcourt.

Forcing outside shots-it generally holds true that as players get further away from the basket, their chances of scoring decrease.

Pitfalls: An outside shot is not the primary objective of a fast break. If your kids are in the habit of running down the floor and jacking up threes instead of setting up your offense, this drill won't help you much.

Develop an outside shot
Great post players can step outside and knock down the 15-18 foot jumper with ease.

Airball: An outside shot that misses the basketball hoop, backboard, everything. Airborne Shooter: An airborne shooter is a player who has released the ball on a try for a goal or has tapped the basketball and has not returned to the floor.

O2 could take the outside shot here. Meanwhile O3 fakes inside and cuts hard outside for the pass from O2. At this point, O3 has the option of taking the shot, taking the ball to the hoop, or looking for the first cutter O1.

Fake and feint, allow the outside shot, and rebound.
Intercept long passes with caution. If you miss-time the pass or misjudge it, the opponents score.

Always look to go inside first, before shooting outside shots! Our first objective every time down the floor is to go inside. We like for our post to touch the ball before any shots are taken.

Dish-out to the post player 4 for outside shot.
4
4 can shoot or pass to 1 who drives to the basket.

- Wrong guys shooting the ball
It used to be that only the better shooters shot the long outside shots, the perimeter . shots. Now, because of the 3 point shot, everyone wants to put them up and be a hero.

BUT this time ball must be passed out to the forward's team member for an outside shot. Play continues until a shot is hit, then the perimeter shooters rotate around.

Small forward: Versatile and very athletic player. Aggressively attacks the defense by driving and cutting towards the basket, but also has a consistent outside shot.
