Overhead pass

Basketball Over-and-back violationOverplay

The overhead pass
This pass is great for players wanting to get the ball over smaller or close-marking opponents.
Be careful when using this pass because it is easy for a defender to protect the area directly above them and intercept the ball.

OVERHEAD PASS
The overhead pass is often used as an outlet pass. Bring the ball directly above your forehead with both hands on the side of the ball and follow through. Aim for the teammate's chin.

Overhead Pass
The ball is held straight up in the air avoiding any bend in the elbows. The ball should not be put behind the head. The passer extends a leg toward the receiver and delivers the pass with a snap of the wrists.

An overhead pass is another fundamental passing technique. It is used by snapping the ball over the head, like a soccer throw-in. This pass is especially effective in helping to initiate a fast break.

To make an overhead pass, hold the ball over your head and slightly back of the center of your head. Don't hold the ball BEHIND your head. This wastes movement and time.

The two-handed overhead pass
This pass is often used as an outlet pass off a rebound, or for a "skip" pass (a cross-court pass over a zone defense). It can also be used to quickly move the ball around the perimeter.
