The passing lanes
Description
For man to man and good to get easy steals and fastbreaks.

The Five Passing Lanes
Each game situation presents the possibility for one perfect pass. Imagine yourself faced by a defender crouched over in good defensive position.

See how the passing lanes are covered?
We are not guarding the inbounder. He is not a threat - yet.

A good passer knows how to open the passing lanes by making a fake in one direction, and then passing the opposite direction.

Passing lanes are contested and the ball handler is trapped when possible. Here X2 is at least even with the ball handler and forces the dribble into a sideline "fan" trap.

the passing lanes and looking for a pass deflection.
3. The guards attempt to get back inside the ball. They squeeze the dribbler from
behind and try to flick the ball loose by scooping up.
4.

My strong preference is to run man to man pressure defense - getting into passing lanes and disrupting the opponents timing and rhythm.

Use - the defense is overplaying the perimeter passing lanes... Communication - say a pre-arrange "key" word to signal the team about the 'Back Door Cut'...

Successful fakes will create shots, open passing lanes or open drives to the basket. Your fakes must look real and can include shot fakes, foot fakes, ball fakes, head fakes or eye fakes.

When a team plays a zone, the defenders must keep their hands up and in passing lanes and quickly adjust their positions as the ball and the offensive players move around.

4. Study your opponent's offensive tendencies - This will allow you to identify passing lanes. Make an effort to get into these passing lanes and make it difficult for your opponents to do what they want to offensively.

Drill teaches players to cut, move and spread the floor to assure clean passing lanes, open shots and ball movement to break down defenses. Also teaches defenses to steal, rotate and stay with there man.
Instructions: ...

Kids must learn to handle the pressure and make good decisions with the ball, and not panic when being pressured defensively. Kids must protect the ball and make head fakes and ball fakes to help create passing lanes.
