When open, the jump stop enables you to catch and shoot in one motion, thereby fostering a quicker release than the step and shoot, which is a two motion shot. It is also easier to adjust to bad passes.

Release too early and the play fails; however, if the screen is wide and the switch is made, it really makes no difference when the roll is made. The offense should have the advantage because a guard will now be defending a forward.

Release the ball right at or just prior to the peak of your jump and just as your elbow reaches full extension. Snap your wrist to release the ball off your fingers and achieve the correct back spin necessary for a soft shot.
Follow Through ...

The Release happens while the upward motion of the lower & middle bodies is taking place. It's a "one piece" motion, integrated, continuous. If you wait in the jumping action to shoot, you lose all the great benefits listed above.

The release
When using a jump shot, make sure that when you go up to release the ball, you release as you reach the top of your jump. This allows you to use all of your leg lift in your shot.

STEP ONE

It's a temporary status for players who are released by their team. A player released between August 15th and the end of the regular season stays on waivers for 48 hours. A player released at any other time stays on waivers for 10 days.

Most early offenses depend on quick, wide lane releases, inbound passes, and pass advances to reach the offensive operating areas before all of the defenders can retreat into the front court area.

If this technique is followed literally, it will make the release hard and the player will also have less control.

Instructions
One player starts with the ball under the basket. The other player spots up from any spot on the floor.

Most back-cuts are pressure releases against defensive overplays; however, they can also result from defensive errors such as losing vision of the ball or losing vision of the player that they are guarding.

The jump shot is taken when the shooter leaps in the air and releases the ball toward the basket. A hook shot is taken when the shooter turns sideways to the basket and releases the ball in a high arc toward the basket.

To transfer power from the legs to the ball, release the ball just as, or just before, you complete your jumping action. Make sure the ball leaves the fingertips before the arm straightens in follow through.

1913 Until now baskets have been closed and there are various contraptions on the market that allow "quick-release" of the ball . In this year the game's ruling committees allow what has been an unofficial practice for years - open baskets.

Airborne Shooter: An airborne shooter is a player who has released the ball on a try for a goal or has tapped the basketball and has not returned to the floor. The airborne shooter is considered to be in the act of shooting.

Fish-hook cut - A change-of-direction cut that takes the shape of a fish hook and is used as a pressure release.

I like this exercise because it teaches you how to transfer the energy from the ground and explosively release it through your hands.
