Scoring
The ultimate objective of basketball, like most team sports, is to outscore your opponent. In basketball, players score points by throwing the ball through the basket, an act known as shooting.
Scoring:
Award 1 point for a made basket. Award 1 point for defensive rebounds, 2 points for offensive rebounds, and 1 point for steals. Subtract 1 point for a turnover or a foul (but again "let them play" as much as you can).

Originally, a successful goal was counted as one point, and one point was also given to a team anytime three consecutive fouls were called on the opponent. Free throws were first introduced in 1894.

Points are accumulated in three ways:
Free-Throw: (one point) An unguarded shot from the free throw line awarded after certain fouls.
Scoring
A basket scored from the field counts for 2 points, unless it is shot from beyond the 3-point line, where it counts for 3 points. A free throw counts for one point.

Scoring:
Time the event score, the team with the fewest seconds wins. Time starts when offense grabs the initial rebound. Ends when ball goes through the net.
An offensive score subtracts 5 seconds from the overall score.
SCORING: Shooter gets value of shot (a 2 or a 3) for a made shot. If the defender fouls him, the shooter gets two points and the defender is replaced.
