How to set Screens

1. Front-screen
The screener is facing the defender that he is setting the screen on, often used in the open court.

This screen is used when an offensive player moves toward the baseline to free an offensive cutter on the perimeter.

Using Screens
When using a screen, I like to set-up the defender by walking him away from the screener. Then, I try to make the defense easy to screen by bringing the defense to a stop.
4 screens the defense #2 guard.3 screens the #3 defensive player.The def 1 and 4 probally will come out to the ball area.
This will leave the lane area open for the 1 to break down the middle for a pass and shot.
Hold all screens for a “two count.'
After the screen occurs, read the defense and flash into the open area as the “second cutter.'

Make sure legal screens are being set and that the screener opens to the ball.

Q: My question is regarding moving screens. In order for a moving screen violation to be called, doesn't the defensive player have to be physically obstructed by the offensive player in motion?
When playing cutters, do you allow them to come through or do you try to force them to take a different route? When playing cross screens or down screens, do you allow the action to take place or do you force adjustments?

Personal fouls on offensive players are most often called for charging, pushing off of an opponent, or setting illegal screens.
Jumping to the ball allows you to be in proper position to front cutters, avoid screens (be a moving target), and help teammates. Any time the ball is dribbled you must make the proper ball side or help side adjustments in positioning.
