Having a secondary break is often helpful in getting quick baskets in transition, before the defense can get down the floor. Also a good secondary break can flow directly into your half-court offense.

Secondary Break
I believe the secondary break at this level (junior high) is even more important than the set half court plays. You players need to know how to flow right into an offense from a full court situation.

Secondary break: A fast break that involves most of the players from each team.
Set play: A sequence of player and ball movement that has an end.
Shagger: A player who, in a drill, collects loose balls and returns them to the passer.

Our style of basketball offensive play is to run and attack! We push the ball up the court at every opportunity. As we push the ball up the court, we look to score - primary break to secondary break, secondary break to one of our set offenses.

If the fast break did not lead to a basket and an offensive rebound is obtained and put back quickly, this is called the secondary break.
