Become A Great Shooter With These Basketball Tips!
So you want to become a great shooter? You want that great feeling of "nothin' but net" when the defender is trying really hard to stop you.

Shooter- a player who takes a shot at the basket.
Regulation Game- four 12- minute quarters in the NBA or two 20- minute halves in college; a game that ends without overtime periods.
Defense- when the opposing team has the ball.

Shooter: a player who takes a shot at the basket.
Shooting range: the distance from which a player is likely to make his shots.
Sidelines: 2 boundary lines that run the length of the court.

Shooter - A player who takes a shot at the basket.
Shooting Guard - Generally, the player who takes the majority of the shots from the perimeter, many of which are three-point attempts.

Good Shooters
A shooter is as good as the shots he takes. Take shots that you practice and you make alot of. If you take those shots, chances are you will be a good shooter. If you take bad shots, you are probably not going to make many in a game.

Most shooters, however, will follow the shooting procedure where they maintain their rhythm all the way through the shot. Following this procedure the player`s pause between the lifting and thrusting of the ball will only be for a split second.

Top shooters have a feel for what a good shot is. They know the moment a shot leaves their hand if it is good or not. So what "feel" should you aim for?

The shooter takes up a position behind the free throw line (front wheels may be over the line). He/she must take the shot within 5 seconds of being handed the ball by the referee.

The shooter automatically takes point position for the press.

A good shooter's shot is always "right on line", i.e. if it misses, it either misses long or short, and never off to the right or left (from the shooter's viewpoint).

Great shooters are great players. Not so. Note that many Hall of Famers are not great shooters, so you can be a great player without being a great shooter. Shooting is only one part of the game.

(1) The shooter must have at least one foot on the floor outside the three-point field goal line prior to the attempt.
(2) The shooter may not be touching the floor on or be inside the three-point field goal line.

The 60 Point Shooter basketball drill is great for developing and practicing shooting the basketball from all different ranges. The game entails a three point shot, a shorter range jumper and a free throw in each round.

Two Balls Three Shooters Drill
Three players go out on the floor where they are going to shoot from. Two of the players has a ball. They shoot. The player who's ball comes off the rim first gets his rebound and passes to the player without a ball.

alive: a ball is alive when it is released by a shooter or thrower, or legally tapped by a jumper during a jump ball; the game clock starts only when the ball becomes alive; compare with live.

When not using the board, the shooter should aim just over the front of the rim. The advantage of this is that all rims are the same while backboards are different in each gym.

(Note: Should a shooter be fouled in the act of shooting a three-point goal, and the try is unsuccessful, three free throws will be awarded; the status of the try does not change the status of the shooter.)

Shooter's roll: When a shot doesn't go through the basket cleanly, but bounces around softly before dropping through.
Shooting foul: A violation that happens when a defender fouls the shooter and the shot scores.

In other words, their feet should be just inside the three-point line (if the team has strong three-point shooters, then you may want to extend your guards a few more feet).

Also, there is no need for the shooter to catch and then face the basket. Because the ball comes from the basket so the shooter is already turned when he receives the ball. Make your practice more realistic.

The lane lines also contain lane spaces markings used to align and separate the non-shooters. The first lane space, on both sides of the basket, are occupied by the opposing team from the free throw shooter.

The jump shot is taken when the shooter leaps in the air and releases the ball toward the basket. A hook shot is taken when the shooter turns sideways to the basket and releases the ball in a high arc toward the basket.
