The shooting guard is normally relied upon to be able to shoot from the outside and provide some scoring punch. Shooting guards are usually taller than point guards, and may take a higher number of shots.

A shooting guard should maintain pressure on the perimeter, but also make offensive rebounds and have the ability to drive through anyone, even if they are double teamed.

Over the years, we have been fortunate to have some very good shooting guards, who could not only shoot the outside shot well, but also attack off the dribble.

It will be no surprise to hear that the main job of a shooting guard is to score.
Often referred to as the two guard or the off guard.

This player is a skilled long-range shooter, and shares duties in attack and defence with the point guard, but can also play in tandem with the 'small forward' in a wide offensive role.

Shooting Pocket - Also referred to as the triple-threat position.

SHOOTING GUARD OR #2 or SG - This should be your 2nd best ball handler. Your SG and your PG will be the primary people to bring the ball down the court for you.

The Shooting Guard will fill the Guard position after the Point Guard takes an Elbow on his side.

The basic option is for the shooting guard to cross under the basket off a tandem double screen set by the small forward and post for a shot. The small forward after setting a baseline screen continues out off the power forward's down screen.

Players #2, (shooting guard) and #3, (quick forward), fill the outside lanes and run the court within one foot of the sideline.

The players at this position are the smallest on the court and are either classified as a point guard or a shooting guard, depending upon their specific skills.

The shooting guard is generally a good ball handler with excellent shooting talents. The small forward is usually a strong scorer from both near the basket and at a distance. The power forward primarily concentrates on defense and rebounding.
