Throw-in - Inbounding the ball.
Timeout - When play is temporarily suspended by an official or at the request of a team to discuss strategy or respond to an injured player.
Tip-Off - The initial jump ball that starts the game.

A throw-in is a method of putting the ball in play from out-of-bounds in accordance with Rule 8Section 111. The throw-in begins when the ball is at the disposal of the team or player entitled to it and ends when the ball is released by the thrower-in.
alternating-possession rule: in college, the possession arrow changes direction after each subsequent jump ball situation, alternating which team gets possession for the throw-in.
The ball would be awarded out of bounds for a throw-in by the opposing team.

On throw-ins when the clock is stopped, if there is no defense, let the ball roll up the court (since the clock does not start until the ball is touched). The more often that you can stop the clock, the better. Score and call time out.
Diagram B shows a zone against the half court throw-in. In this situation, X4 and X5 protect against the long pass to the paint. X2 prevents the pass up the sideline for the corner three-pointer.
In the NBA, (Rule No. 12, Section II Article 5) a delay-of-game shall be called for a defender crossing the boundary line prior to the ball being released on a throw-in.
Keep in mind that on this throw-in you can move right or left along the end line. You are not limited to a single spot. The referee doesn't hand you the ball and designate a spot.
It is not legal to pass the ball out of bounds to another player on a spot throw-in. The ref should indicate the limits of travel to the inbounder. A spot throw-in gets 3', the other two cases the entire baseline.
There is also a time limit when it comes to throw-ins or free throws.
These must be taken within five seconds.

Technical foul
Fouls that do not involve contact with another player, like preventing a throw-in being taken, arguing with officials, or unsporting behaviour. Two free throws will be given to the non-offending team.
