Tip-off: A jump ball that is used to start the game.

Jump Ball (or Tip-off) - Starts the game at center court. The referee tosses the ball up between the two centers who jump to tip it toward a teammate. A jump ball is also called when two opposing players have simultaneous possession of the ball.

Trailer: An offensive player, usually a center or a power forward, who trails the first wave of players on the fast break.

The match begins with a tip-off. The referee tosses the ball vertically upwards between 2 opponents at the centre circle. The ball must be tipped (not caught) by one or both of the opponents, only after it reaches its highest point.

This circle is used for the tip-off, which starts the game. In a tip-off, a referee throws a ball into the air and one player from each team jumps to tip the ball to his/her respective teammates.

Center -The STARTER for a team that starts the game (with the other team's center) by doing the opening TIP-OFF, usually the tallest player of the team with the largest vertical jump height.

A player who is generally in the center of the offense, usually the tallest player on a team, who takes the tip-off and is usually stationed in a post position on offense.

There are three categories of hand signals, covering: fouls (illegal contact or interference with an opposing player), violations (illegal ball-handling, exceeding time limits and so on) and game control (tip-off, time-out, reset clock etc.).
