You may have heard of alpha-lipoic acid as "the miracle in a jar" for its anti-aging effects. It's a newer, ultra-potent antioxidant that helps fight future skin damage and helps repair past damage.
In 1999 we looked at a relatively new antioxidant supplement called alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) and concluded that it might one day prove to be very important, but that it was too early to recommend it. Since then more studies on it have been done.
There are very few and inconclusive studies about alpha-lipoic acid in skin care. But we cannot deny its effectiveness as antioxidant.
They had directly compared the most effective skin-care defense compounds, which included vitamins C and E, CoQ, kinetin, and alpha-lipoic acid.
Thioctic Acid
Also known as alpha-lipoic acid, a natural anti-oxidant.
Tocopherol
Vitamin E, either natural or synthetic. Has antioxidant properties.
