Basecoat Clear, thick polish applied before nail color to create a smooth and adhesive surface for nail color. Used to prevent staining fingernails and to prolong life of nailcolor.
Apply basecoat, two coats of color and a thin topcoat. Be sure to allow a minimum of 1 minute between coatings for each coat of enamel to dry.
The use of a basecoat is important. It not only protects the nail but prevents the staining of the nail from brightly colored polishes. It will also help your polish to last longer.
It's definitely a great basecoat, but not great at stain prevention. Doubling up on basecoat (I like OPI Natural Nail or Essie First Base) can definitely help if you're using a polish you know is likely to stain.
Next, apply a clear basecoat-the formula should contain protein, vitamin E, and/or calcium, all of which will help strengthen brittle nails and prime them to hold on to polish longer.
