Remember, creams that contain alpha- or beta-hydroxy acids for exfoliation can make skin more sensitive to light, as can certain medications. If you use lotion with those acids, be sure to apply a separate sunblock over the lotion.

Dissolving exfoliants are composed of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs). AHAs include glycolic, citric, lactic, and malic acids.

While many dermatologists and scientists dispute the true efficacy of some of these popular skin care ingredients, two of the most well-documented success stories are alpha-hydroxy and beta-hydroxy acids (AHAs and BHAs).
