Cinnamic Acid
A naturally occurring acid found in plants and used as a sunscreen. Also can be manufactured. Provides protecting from UV rays. Shea Butter contains natural cinnamic acid.

Methyl Cinnamate (V): derived by heating methanol, cinnamic acid and sulfuric acid
Methyl chloride (chloromethane) ( (V): a colorless, poisonous gas or liquid mostly of natural origin.

Octyl Methoxycinnamate: A non-PABA sunscreen agent derived from cinnamic acid and manufactured in Switzerland that blocks UVB rays.
Octyl Palmitate: An emollient amplifying ester commonly used as a mineral oil replacement.

Balsam - Aromatic resinous substances containing benzoic and cinnamic acid, such as Balsam of Peru.
Beeswax - Wax obtained from processing the honeycomb. Used in candles, soaps and lip balms.

Octyl Methoxycinnamate: The ester of 2-ethylehexyl alcohol and methoxycinnamic acid. A non-PABA sunscreen agent manufactured in Switzerland.
Octyl Palmitate: An emollient amplifying ester commonly used as a mineral oil replacement.

Look for toothpaste without cinnamic acid (like Tom's of Maine), or if you're attached to a brand that has it, dermatologist Dr. Dennis Gross recommends applying Vaseline around the mouth and chin before brushing to form a barrier.
