Cinnamic Acid A naturally occurring acid found in plants and used as a sunscreen. Also can be manufactured. Provides protecting from UV rays. Shea Butter contains natural cinnamic acid.
Methyl Cinnamate (V): derived by heating methanol, cinnamic acid and sulfuric acid Methyl chloride (chloromethane) ( (V): a colorless, poisonous gas or liquid mostly of natural origin.
Octyl Methoxycinnamate: A non-PABA sunscreen agent derived from cinnamic acid and manufactured in Switzerland that blocks UVB rays. Octyl Palmitate: An emollient amplifying ester commonly used as a mineral oil replacement.
Balsam - Aromatic resinous substances containing benzoic and cinnamic acid, such as Balsam of Peru. Beeswax - Wax obtained from processing the honeycomb. Used in candles, soaps and lip balms.

Look for toothpaste without cinnamic acid (like Tom's of Maine), or if you're attached to a brand that has it, dermatologist Dr. Dennis Gross recommends applying Vaseline around the mouth and chin before brushing to form a barrier.
