FATTY ACIDS: Oils found in vegetable and animal fats. Saturated fatty acids are palmitic and stearic. Some unsaturated fatty acids are oleic, linoleic, and linolenic acids (excellent emollients for the skin).

 


Fatty acids - Fatty acids are non-irritating lubricants that are essential for skin health.
Fatty alcohols - Formed when fatty acids are exposed to hydrogen, they are non-drying, and act as emollients.

Free fatty acids*: Free fatty acids can irritate the skin and provoke acne eruptions. Reducing intake of foods containing hydrolyzed fats will improve fat metabolism.

Essential Fatty Acids ( EFAs)
EFAs are a part of the lipid layer, and help maintain the suppleness and elasticity of skin.

ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS (OMEGA 3, 6 & 9)
Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are essential to human health but cannot be made in the body. Therefore, they must be obtained from food or supplements.

Essential fatty acids: With non-fat and low-fat craze of the 80s and 90s, many women deprive their skin of fats altogether. You need good fats for your skin: omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids.

Essential fatty acids (EFAs): Found in fish and several types of nuts, EFAs like omega 3, 6 and 9 help to moisturize the skin and decrease inflammation. You can also find EFAs in topical and supplement forms.

Omega-6: Omega-6 fatty acids (polyunsaturated fatty acids) found mainly in sunflower and safflower oils, as well as various nuts and seeds is consumed more readily than its omega-3 counterpart.
