Fatty alcohols - Formed when fatty acids are exposed to hydrogen, they are non-drying, and act as emollients.
Glucose - A monosaccharide, glucose is used as a humectant.

 


Fatty alcohols - alcohols that are emollient, not drying. They are used in creams, conditioners, lotions, and shampoos. Common ones include cetyl alcohol, oleyl alcohol, lauryl alcohol, and stearyl alcohol.

Coconut Fatty Alcohols
The long-chain fatty alcohols from coconut palm kernels, which are natural emollients. Synthetic versions of cetyl alcohol are often used in commercial formulations and should be avoided.

Cetearyl Alcohol An emulsifying wax, made by combining fatty alcohols from vegetable sources, such as coconut fatty alcohol. An emollient, thickening agent, moisturiser, emulsifier, stabilizer.

Cetearyl Alcohol
Fatty alcohols are components of all natural waxes - derived from plant oil and used as an emulsifier, emollient and thickener. Not to be confused with Ethyl alcohol. Gives a high viscocity to a skincare product.

Be a teetotaler. Many moisturizers contain fatty alcohols that are good for your skin, but the same can't be said for alcohol that comes in a bottle. Avoid its dehydrating, dulling effects by limiting yourself to two to three drinks a week.

Behenyl alcohol
Derived from coconut fatty alcohols; thickening agent, helps prevent moisture loss.
Bentonite clay
Natural, grey or green, montmorillonite clay; provides thickness and texture to the formulation.

Ceteareth-12, 20 & 25 - Is a family of fatty alcohols that are used in skin care products to thicken the product as well as keep all of the ingredients mixed together.

Ceteareth 5, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceteth 2 and 20

Ceteareth-20: Derived from cetearyl alcohol through ethoxylation. Used with the parent alcohol or with other fatty alcohols, it functions as a primary emulsifier and thickening agent.

What's at the other end could completely alter its behavior in products. For example, cetyl, benzyl or oleyl alcohol are all so-called fatty alcohols, which act as emollients. These decrease water loss from the skin and soften it.
