Kojic Acid
Kojic acid is a more recent remedy for the treatment of pigment problems and age spots. First developed in 1989, kojic acid has a similar effect as hydroquinone.

 


Kojic Acid: Skin-lightening agent.
Lanolin: An emollient with moisturizing properties and an emulsifier with high water absorbing capabilities.
Mallow: An anti-inflammatory substance that helps prevent age lines and reduce eye swelling.

Kojic acid - Kojic acid is extracted from mould grown on rice (Aspergillus oryzae) or that grown on soybean (Aspergillus sojae) and is used as a starter medium for the production of fermented food.

Kojic acid is a by-product in the fermentation process of malting rice for use in the manufacturing of sake, the Japanese rice wine. Some research shows kojic acid to be effective for inhibiting melanin production.

Kojic acid is one of the most popular and effective skin-whitening ingredients used in Asian countries. Kojic acid is used to treat skin pigmentation problems like melasma, hyperpigmentation, age spots and freckles.

Kojic acid, discovered in Japan in 1989, is a natural product derived from fungi. It is gentle on the skin and very effective in treating skin discoloration. Penetrating upper skin layers, it inhibits the formation of the pigment.

Kojic acid, a by-product of the fermentation process of Japanese sake, shows some improvement in fading the skin because it inhibits tyrosinase. However, the ingredient is known for its instability in cosmetic formulas.

The Dangers of Hydroquinone and Kojic Acid

There is an ingredient called Kojic acid, derived from various fungal and plant materials, that helps reduce melanin formation. It's found in many Asian and ethnic bleaching products.

Anti-inflammatory and skin lightener; believed to be more potent than kojic acid.
Linoleic Acid
Also known as Vitamin K an essential fatty acid, emollient and emulsifier. Also used for redness reduction.
