Mucilage - The old-fashioned name for glue may have been mucilage, but that does not apply here.

 


Mucilage: a slimy product formed by the addition of gum to water. Used internally and externally to soothe irritated and inflamed membranes and surfaces.
Mucolytics: agents that disperse or dissolve mucus.

MUCILAGE
A gelatinous substance found in plants and animals that is extracted for cosmetic purposes from plants such as seaweeds.

Mucilages
When used in medicine these constituents act in the same way as mucus in the body. Mucilages are a cellulose which when it absorbs water becomes a smooth gel.
