Oil Glands
Oil/Sebaceous glands produce a waxy-fatty substance called sebum which lubricates the skin and protects it from moisture loss.

Acne is a common disorder of the oil glands. The pores secrete too much sebum (oil) which blocks the pores. Acne occurs primarily on the face, back, shoulders, chest, and sometimes arms.

These often occur because there are oil glands attached to nerve endings, which are easily irritated.

Acne occurs when the oil glands produce excess sebum, the skin's own oil, which accumulates with dead skin cells to form a plug which results in a clogged skin pore.

Oily skin results from overactive oil glands; the oil helps retain dead skin cells in the hair follicles. Pores tend to be larger. The dead skin cells may darken with exposure to the air, forming blackheads.

Lots of skin cells can close the oil glands or pores, creating blackheads or whiteheads, (as mentioned earlier).
