The active ingredients for most sunscreens are one of the following: PABA and PABA esters, Benzophenones, Cinnamates, Salicylates, and Anthranilate.

Salicylic acid belongs to a class of drugs known as salicylates. It may work by causing the skin to shed dead cells and by decreasing redness and swelling (inflammation).

To keep your diet high in natural salicylates (the main ingredient in aspirin that helps prevent heart attacks), eat more oranges, raspberries, apricots and cherries.
For additional salicylates, season foods with cinnamon, curry, cayenne and thyme.

If you are allergic to salicylates (found in aspirin), you shouldn't use salicylic acid. And pregnant or nursing women should ask their doctor before using any product with salicylic acid.
