Salicylic Acid
For years the main type of over the counter wart treatment was salicylic acid in one of two forms. A disc shaped cushion soaked in salicylic acid and an adhesive backing can be placed directly over the wart.

 


Salicylic Acid
Salicylic acid is used in many over-the-counter and prescription products to treat acne. It penetrates pores and reduces blackheads and whiteheads, with less irritation than may occur with alpha hydroxy acids.

Salicylic Acid: Salicylic acid a beta hydroxy acid is a mild acid that works as a keratolytic agent (removes the tops layers of skin and opens clogged pores).

Salicylic Acid (BHA)
Powerful ingredient prescribed by doctors and skincare professionals for treatment of acne, ingrown hairs, and dandruff. Also used to combat the effects of aging on the skin.

SALICYLIC ACID: Occurs naturally in wintergreen leaves, sweet birch and other plants. Topically it is an anesthetic, a sunscreen and a fungicide with a mild peeling effect.

What is Salicylic Acid and How Can it Help Treat Acne?
You may have seen that many men's skin care products have salicylic acid in them these days. The reason for this is how effective it is in treating acne and other skin blemishes.

Beta hydroxy
Derived from the bark of the willow tree; gentle exfoliation and deep cleansing.
Salix alba (willow bark) extract
Derived from the bark; natural source of salicylic acid, anti-inflammatory, cleanses, exfoliates.

Salicylic acid - an antibacterial, skin softening ingredient that comes from willow bark. A main ingredient in beta-hydroxy acids, it helps exfoliate dry, flaky skin and prevent and heal blemishes.
Saponification - the process of making soap.

Salicylic Acid
Salicylic acid, or as it's more trendily known "Beta Hydroxy Acid" functions in a similar manner as the glycolic acids.

Salicylic acid is used on the skin to treat psoriasis and other dry, scaly skin conditions. This medication is also used to help remove dead skin from warts, the palms of the hands, and the soles of the feet.

Salicylic Acid - Broad spectrum antibacterial and fungicidal agent. Used externally as an antimicrobial and anti-acne agent, this is common in acne medications.

Resorcinol, salicylic acid and sulphur all work by breaking down blackheads and whiteheads. It can take 1 to 2 months for results to show, so a little patience is required with these OTC products. Severe acne will need other solutions.

Acne treatments which contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide worsen acne, as these are skin irritants and very drying.

Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA)
Commonly known as salicylic acid, it exfoliates inside the pore to help the skin shed cells and loosen plugs to improve the size and function of the pore. Highly effective in reducing clogged pores and breakouts.

Step 2: Exfoliate with a salicylic acid treatment, which will clean out pores. Just don't exfoliate too much or scrub too hard (see the blackhead section above). Two to 3 times a week is perfect.

White willow bark - This plant contains natural salicins, the base for salicylic acid, which is a multifunctional ingredient that addresses many of the systemic causes of blemishes as well as serving as an anti-inflammatory agent.

Most of these products contain some combination of granulated pumice, sea salts, fruit seeds, salicylic acid, alpha-hydroxy acid, and beta hydroxy acid, all of which serve to loosen and slough off dead skin cells.

Used to exfoliate epidermis of skin and prevent clogged pores. Salicylic acid is a BHA (found in many OTC acne medications and Clinique Turnaround Cream/Lotion).

Preservative.

A decoction made from the bark of white willow has mild anodyne properties. Aspirin (salicylic acid) can be extracted from the bark but when used in low concentrations the effects are much milder.

Another addition is a topical scrub product. Although Clinique clarifying lotions all contain salicylic acid, the company recommends a mechanical exfoliator for use 1 to 3 times a week.
