Sebum - the oil secreted onto the skin from the sebaceous glands.
Shea butter (karite) - a buttery emollient from the fruit of the African karite nut tree. An extremely effective ingredient in moisturizers, shampoos, and conditioners.

 


Sebum: A viscous, pale yellow natural oil secretion of the sebaceous glands in the skin and scalp that lubricate and protect and also are implicated in the pathogenesis of acne. Contains squalene, waxes and cholesterol.

Sebum Sequestering Micro-Particles, a form of polymer technology, effectively absorb excess surface skin oils without causing skin dryness.

Sebum- Oil in the skin.
Sensitive Skin- Very often dry as well, can become irritated on contact with various substances.
Shea Butter- Used for its excellent moisturizing and skin penetrating properties.

Sebum

Too much sebum, however, can cause the pores to become blocked and leads to blemishes. These eruptions become blackheads and lead to pimples.

When the level of sebum becomes low, skin loses its ability to retain moisture. Moisture somewhat provides protection to skin from the harmful UV rays from the sun. Dryness makes your skin itchi and you experience irritability and burning sensation.

The normal role of sebum is to hydrate the scalp. If you have dry hair, the sebum doesn't do its job properly, and this leads to itchiness and irritation. The hair loses its elasticity, becomes dull, breaks and splits more easily because it's fragile.

Lavender: Balances sebum, soothing and healing, helps formation of scar tissues and encourages growth of skin cells.
Rosewood: Cell stimulant and tissue regenerator.
Sandalwood: Helps formation of scar tissues and reduces imflammation.

Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil - Expressed from the seeds of the jojoba plant and nearly identical to human sebum, it acts as an emollient to soften and soothe the skin while increasing the skin's lubricity. Also an excellent hair conditioner.

Sebum - The oil produced by the sebaceous gland.
Self-tanner - A sun tanning product that contains DHA, which reacts with amino acids in the top layer of skin, causing it to temporarily darken (2-4 days).

The scalp produces a natural oil called sebum. EFA's are the closest thing to natural sebum (sebum contain EFA'S). EFA's can take very dry and porous hair and transform it into soft pliable hair. Recommendations: Safflower Oil (used sparingly) ...

It produces enough sebum to keep skin pliable, but not so much that skin looks slick. Sensitive skin is usually a marker for other skin conditions. It is commonly dry, elegant and prone to allergic reactions.

The skin contains numerous glands, called sebaceous glands, which secrete an oil, called sebum, that lubricates the skin and keeps it soft and pliable.

Acne occurs when the oil glands produce excess sebum, the skin's own oil, which accumulates with dead skin cells to form a plug which results in a clogged skin pore.

Oily skin looks shiny and has enlarged pores, giving it a thick appearance, due to the excess secretion of sebum.

For mild or moderate acne, your doctor can prescribe topical treatments such as benzoyl peroxide and retinoids to clear up the sebum and unblock your pores.

It is suspected that jojoba oil "tricks" the skin into stopping the production of sebum through somehow mimicking sebum. This also means that jojoba oil will assist in breaking down sebum in plugged-up pores.

Pathogenic events include plugging of the infundibulum of the follicles, retention of sebum, overgrowth of the acne bacillus (Propionibacterium acnes) with resultant release of and irritation by accumulated fatty acids, ...

Acne (acne vulgaris)is caused when the pore openings on the face, neck, back, chest and arms become plugged with to much oil (sebum) production made by the oil glands.

The scalp produces the best EFA's called sebum. The problems is once the hair grows past the neck line or does not have direct contact with the scalp the scalps natural oils can not be utilized throughout the hair shaft.

This is not true but a good cleansing routine will help to keep the pores free of dead skin and sebum.

A saturated hydrocarbon found in human sebum, added to cosmetics for its emollient and bactericidal properties. Squalane is typically obtained from shark liver oil, but the identical substance can be derived from olives.

Whitehead : Also known as a closed comedone. A collection of sebum and keratin that plugs the opening of the pilosebaceous unit (skin pore) and imbeds itself in the follicular canal under the skin so that it looks like a raised, white bump.

Lemon Essential Oil: Has a fresh scent, reduces sebum production, tautens and is beneficial for oily and aging skin.
Lemon Balm: Used to tone circulation.
Licorice Extract: Restores skin tone and smoothness.

Farnesol has been found to have the following effects: smoothes wrinkles, normalizes sebum secretion, increases skin elasticity, increases the tension of tissue and increases the moisture binding capacity of the skin.

A highly effective moisturizer that is extremely compatible with human skin (due to the fact that human sebum is composed of 25% squalane, allowing it to be easily absorbed). Helps maintain the skin's natural softness and suppleness.

Carrot oil is said by many skincare experts to promote the formation of new cells and stimulate the production of sebum in dry scaly skin and scalp.

Burdock has been credited with antibacterial and antifungal properties and the apparent ability to help regulate and normalize sebum (oil from the skin) production. It has traditionally been used to treat acne, taken both internally and externally.

Makeup remover is used for cleaning out the waterproof cosmetics from the skin to protect layer of sebum in body. One should use waterproof cosmetics at any occasion.

Jojoba Oil :
Technically it is not an oil, but an ester, completely miscible with skin sebum, a light "oil-free emollient for the skin.

Oil Glands
Oil/Sebaceous glands produce a waxy-fatty substance called sebum which lubricates the skin and protects it from moisture loss.

It supposedly reduces acne by counteracting the main causes of skin imbalance including regulating sebum rate, inhibiting bacteria growth, reducing free fatty acids that block skin follicles, reducing inflammation, and fighting free radicals.

Jojoba Oil
Partially unsaturated Jojoba Oil derived directly from the jojoba bean. Unbleached and chemically unchanged, it is used as a lubricant and sebum emulsifier.
