Sotret - Trade name for isotretinoin.

Sebum- Oil in the skin.
Sensitive Skin- Very often dry as well, can become irritated on contact with various substances.

Sebum: A viscous, pale yellow natural oil secretion of the sebaceous glands in the skin and scalp that lubricate and protect and also are implicated in the pathogenesis of acne. Contains squalene, waxes and cholesterol.

Sebum Sequestering Micro-Particles, a form of polymer technology, effectively absorb excess surface skin oils without causing skin dryness.

Too much sebum, however, can cause the pores to become blocked and leads to blemishes. These eruptions become blackheads and lead to pimples.

When the level of sebum becomes low, skin loses its ability to retain moisture. Moisture somewhat provides protection to skin from the harmful UV rays from the sun. Dryness makes your skin itchi and you experience irritability and burning sensation.

The normal role of sebum is to hydrate the scalp. If you have dry hair, the sebum doesn't do its job properly, and this leads to itchiness and irritation. The hair loses its elasticity, becomes dull, breaks and splits more easily because it's fragile.

Lavender: Balances sebum, soothing and healing, helps formation of scar tissues and encourages growth of skin cells.
Rosewood: Cell stimulant and tissue regenerator.
Sandalwood: Helps formation of scar tissues and reduces imflammation.

The increase of the sebum secretion blocks the pilosebaceous excretion channel and thus blackheads appear. The hair follicle's colonization by the bacterium called "Propionibacterium" produces the inflammation and the papules and pustules.

* Mink Oil: An oil similar to human sebum; this oil is obtained from the subdermal fatty tissue of minks. It has soothing, amplifying, conditioning, and protective properties, making it an important component of dry skin products.

Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil - Expressed from the seeds of the jojoba plant and nearly identical to human sebum, it acts as an emollient to soften and soothe the skin while increasing the skin's lubricity.

Sebum - The oil produced by the sebaceous gland.
Self-tanner - A sun tanning product that contains DHA, which reacts with amino acids in the top layer of skin, causing it to temporarily darken (2-4 days).

The scalp produces a natural oil called sebum. EFA's are the closest thing to natural sebum (sebum contain EFA'S). EFA's can take very dry and porous hair and transform it into soft pliable hair.

It produces enough sebum to keep skin pliable, but not so much that skin looks slick. Sensitive skin is usually a marker for other skin conditions. It is commonly dry, elegant and prone to allergic reactions.

The skin contains numerous glands, called sebaceous glands, which secrete an oil, called sebum, that lubricates the skin and keeps it soft and pliable.

Acne occurs when the oil glands produce excess sebum, the skin's own oil, which accumulates with dead skin cells to form a plug which results in a clogged skin pore.

Whiteheads - When trapped sebum and bacteria stay below the skin surface, a whitehead is formed. Whiteheads may show up as tiny white spots, or they may be so small that they are invisible to the naked eye.

"Sebum [oil] production declines as you age," explains Jeni Thomas, Ph.D., senior scientist for Pantene. "It tends to kick in right around menopause, when your scalp may be producing only half of what it did at its peak.

Oily skin looks shiny and has enlarged pores, giving it a thick appearance, due to the excess secretion of sebum.

It is suspected that jojoba oil "tricks" the skin into stopping the production of sebum through somehow mimicking sebum. This also means that jojoba oil will assist in breaking down sebum in plugged-up pores.

Pathogenic events include plugging of the infundibulum of the follicles, retention of sebum, overgrowth of the acne bacillus (Propionibacterium acnes) with resultant release of and irritation by accumulated fatty acids, ...

Acne (acne vulgaris)is caused when the pore openings on the face, neck, back, chest and arms become plugged with to much oil (sebum) production made by the oil glands.

The black head is just a combination of sebum (oil) and dead skin cells. The pore is clogged but open to air which oxidizes the material inside and turns it dark.

Basically, your skin is suffering from a lack of sebum, the oil that helps to keep the skin moist and supple. People with oily skin produce far too much sebum.

A pore blocked by a plug of sebum and keratin. When sebum comes into contact with air it darkens as a result of oxidation. Thus, a comedone is commonly known as a blackhead.

It has been thought by many skincare experts to stimulate the production of sebum in dry, scaly skin and scalp, also known to calm and sooth the sebaceous glands in overactive oily skins.

Olive oil attracts external moisture to the skin and still permits the skin to properly breathe, release trapped sebum, and shed dead skin without clogging pores.

And be very gentle: This fragile area doesn't produce much of its own moisturizing sebum, lipids, or fats.

Most of us produce enough natural oil (sebum), to keep our hair healthy, but lack the moisture. After having a chemical service your moisture level will drop as low as 2%, causing drying of the hair, followed by split ends.

The blocked hair follies comprising of sebum are termed as Blackheads which is consider as the syndromes of acne.

Actually a liquid plant wax from seeds with an indefinite shelf life and its chemical similarity to sebum, it is a valuable skin and hair care oil. Rich and nourishing, it helps the desert jojoba plant retain water during drought.

On a molecular level, Shea butter is nearly identical to the sebum produced by the oil glands deep within the skin's layers. Oils that are similar to sebum are quickly absorbed, leaving no trace of greasiness, behind.

The scalp produces the best EFA's called sebum. The problems is once the hair grows past the neck line or does not have direct contact with the scalp the scalps natural oils can not be utilized throughout the hair shaft.

This is not true but a good cleansing routine will help to keep the pores free of dead skin and sebum.

A saturated hydrocarbon found in human sebum, added to cosmetics for its emollient and bactericidal properties. Squalane is typically obtained from shark liver oil, but the identical substance can be derived from olives.

It contains sweat glands as well as hair follicles and regulates the production of sebum. The dermis often begins thinning with age, and elastin and collagen becomes depleted.

A highly effective moisturizer that is extremely compatible with human skin (due to the fact that human sebum is composed of 25% squalane, allowing it to be easily absorbed). Helps maintain the skin's natural softness and suppleness.

Is defined as an excess of sebum or oil production skin.

Unlike other vegetable oils, jojoba oil is chemically very similar to human sebum. Jojoba Oil is expressed or extracted from the seeds of the desert dwelling jojoba shrubs.

It supposedly reduces acne by counteracting the main causes of skin imbalance including regulating sebum rate, inhibiting bacteria growth, reducing free fatty acids that block skin follicles, reducing inflammation, and fighting free radicals.
