Zinc pyrithione and selenium sulfide (the active ingredients in Head & Shoulders and Selsun Blue, respectively) are antifungal and antibacterial agents.

Many effective over the counter antifungal treatments are available for the treatment of tinea versicolor such as clotrimazole, miconazole, and selenium sulfide shampoo, the ingredient found in Selsum Blue.

Certain selenium sulfide based shampoos can occasionally change the hair to a yellowish color. Talk to your stylist because there are certain 'blue' shampoos, which will help cancel out this brassiness.

Look for anti-dandruff shampoos with zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide, salicylic acid or ketoconazole as the active ingredient. To keep your scalp from developing immunity to these shampoos, go ahead and rotate brands at least once a month.

Try a shampoo with selenium sulfide or salicylic acid.
Try Zest soap once a week. It may work for oily hair. It leaves your hair dry, so use conditioner to your hair only but try not to get it on your scalp.
