If you're still having doubts about the permanence of hair coloring, you can always try a temporary solution.
Temporary Color: A hair color formula that lasts only until you shampoo your hair.
Teratogen: An agent capable of causing malformations in embryos (causes birth defects). Isotretinoin, the oral retinoid for acne, is a teratogen.
Temporary colors can't lighten your hair. They only coat the surface of your hair (some semi-permanent dyes penetrate the hair shaft slightly) and don't include any ammonia or peroxide that are needed to strip your hair of its natural color.
Fortunately, "temporary color, which washes out in about 28 shampoos, is all you need if your hair is less than 50 percent gray," says Nicole Riedell, a colorist at the Oscar Blandi Salon in New York City.
A bronzer or tint is nothing more than a temporary coloring. It instantly colors the skin rather than producing a chemical reaction as DHA does. Some lotions are strictly bronzers and some contain both DHA and bronzer.
These dyes should not be confused with temporary coloring products used around the eyes - such as mascara, eye shadow, eyebrow pencils and eye liners - which can be used safely.
Gradual (or progressive) hair dye is applied over a period of time to achieve a desired shade, temporary color can be washed out in the next shampooing, and semi-permanent agents stay through multiple washings.
