Abiogenesis, in its most general sense, is the hypothetical generation of life from non-living matter. Today, the term is primarily used in the context of biology and the origin of life.
Abiogenesis (Greek a-bio-genesis, "non biological origins") is the formation of life from non-living matter.

Abiogenesis - spontaneous generation, nonliving matter yielding life ...
Furthermore, because it is not part of evolutionary theory, abiogenesis also is not considered in this discussion of macroevolution: abiogenesis is an independent hypothesis.
Up into the 19th century it was commonly believed that life forms can appear spontaneously under certain conditions (see abiogenesis).
(Science: biology) alternate generation, the fancied production of living organisms without previously existing parents from inorganic matter, or from decomposing organic matter, a notion which at one time had many supporters; abiogenesis.
