Absorption spectrum
A material's absorption spectrum shows the fraction of incident electromagnetic radiation absorbed by the material over a range of frequencies.

absorption spectrum
The range of a pigment's ability to absorb various wavelengths of light.

absorption The process of taking in, as uptake by roots.

An absorption spectrum is a spectrum of radiant energy whose intensity at each wavelength is a measure of the amount of energy at that wavelength that has passed through a selectively absorbing substance.

One of the inferred pigments in the dichromatic squirrels has about the same absorption spectrum as our short wave cone, so there isn't any reason to suppose that the squirrel has a third.
