aorta
main artery arising from the heart

(Aorta Abdominalis)
The abdominal aorta (Fig. 531) begins at the aortic hiatus of the diaphragm, in front of the lower border of the body of the last thoracic vertebra, and, descending in front of the vertebral column, ...

Aorta: The front-most, non-pulsating portion of the dorsal blood vessel of an insect.
Arthropod: Any of the invertebrate animals (such as insects, spiders, or crustaceans) having an exoskeleton, a segmented body and jointed limbs.

aorta The artery that carries blood from the left ventricle for distribution throughout the tissues of the body. The largest diameter and thickest walled artery in the body.

aorta
(a-ore-ta) [Gk. aeirein, to lift, heave]
The major artery in blood-circulating systems; the aorta sends blood to the other body tissues.

aorta aorta = great artery. Large artery carrying blood away from the heart
aorta aperture An opening; the opening into the first whorl of a gastropod shell.

The aorta is the root systemic artery. It receives blood directly from the left ventricle of the heart via the aortic valve. As the aorta branches, and these arteries branch in turn, they become successively smaller in diameter, down to the arteriole.

The aorta is the main artery leaving the heart. The pulmonary artery is the only artery that carries oxygen-poor blood. The pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs.

Blood from the aorta passes into a branching system of arteries that lead to all parts of the body. It then flows into a system of capillaries where its exchange functions take place.

Baroreceptors near aorta and carotid arteries monitor blood pressure
Abnormal blood pressure → signal send to medulla
Cardiac center changes heart rate → cardiac output
Vasomotor center changes diameter of blood vessels ...

The freshly oxygenated blood is sent first to the coronary arteries that supply the heart and to the aorta which branches into many arteries which in turn supply blood to all the organs and tissues.

The anterior chamber of the early embryo's heart which functions to connect the ventricle to the ventral aorta. Synonyms: bulbus cordis, conus arteriosus, truncus arteriosus.

bulbus arteriosus The anterior chamber of the early embryo's heart which functions to connect the ventricle to the ventral aorta. Synonyms: bulbus cordis, conus arteriosus, truncus arteriosus.

(Science: anatomy) The muscular chamber of the heart which accepts blood from the left atrium and ejects it into the aorta to the systemic circulation.

For example, people with Marfan syndrome may be tall, thin, have long legs, arms and fingers, and may be nearsighted. Their connective tissue is defective. If unrepaired, the connective tissue surrounding the aorta will eventually rupture and ...

Without proper treatment, an individual with Marfan's could suffer a heart attack at an early age due to an enlarged aorta.117 Again, proper treatment can be administered if the individual has submitted to a genetic test for Marfan's.
