AP-1 site: The binding site on DNA at which the transcription "factor" AP-1 binds, thereby altering the rate of transcription for the adjacent gene.

Examples: AP-1, a heterodimer of the proteins encoded by jun and fos.
Some of the genes turned on by these transcription factors encode other transcription factors.
Example: myc.

a resident nuclear factors - reside in the nucleus regardless of activation state - CREB, AP-1, Mef2
