Attenuation

Attenuation
A mechanism of regulating the level of transcription by interfering with mRNA elongation. Slowed translation through a regulatory region allows formation of a RNA secondary structure that promotes transcription termination.

Attenuation (of light): Diminution of light intensity; explained, in the ocean, in terms of absorption and scattering.

Attenuation In bacteria, a mechanism for transcriptional regulation in which a decrease in the rate of translation of an mrna operon reduces the rate of transcription of that operon.

ATTENUATION
Blocking or modulation of the excitation light intensity can be accomplished with a series of filters that transmit increasing percentages of the incident light or with an acousto-optic tunable filter (see AOTF).

The pixel itself is displayed according to the mean attenuation of the tissue(s) that it corresponds to on a scale from -1024 to +3071 on the Hounsfield scale. Pixel is a two dimensional unit based on the matrix size and the field of view.

attenuator An attenuator is the terminator sequence at which attenuation occurs. Attenuation describes the regulation of transcription that is involved in controlling the expression of bacterial operons.

sound window The use of frequencies for communication that are transmitted through the environment with little loss of strength (attenuation).
southern pine forest United States coniferous forest ecosystem characterized by a warm, moist climate.

problem requiring the precise placement and control of multiple loudspeakers; GAs have been used both to design the controllers and find the optimal placement of the loudspeakers for such systems, resulting in the "effective attenuation of noise" (p.
