CDNA clone

Biology CDNA arrayCDNA library

cDNA clones are PCR amplified and the PCR products are printed on to slides with micropins. The clones are verified by sequencing. cDNA array is hybridized with Cy-dye labeled sample and identical control for the same set of experiments.

cDNA clone: "complementary DNA"; a piece of DNA copied from an mRNA. The term "clone" indicates that this cDNA has been spliced into a plasmid or other vector in order to propagate it.

The objects may be oligonucleotides, DNA from cDNA clones or fragments of genomic DNA. The array can be hybridised with a mixture of two probes labelled in contrasting ways.

Reverse transcriptase
An enzyme produced by retroviruses that can synthesize a strand of DNA complimentary to an RNA template. (Reverse transcriptase can also synthesize DNA from a DNA template.) Used to make cDNA clones from mRNA.
