Cell metabolism is the process (or really the sum of many ongoing individual processes) by which living cells process nutrient molecules and maintain a living state.

 


The biochemistry of cell metabolism and the endocrine system has been extensively described. Other areas of biochemistry include the genetic code (DNA, RNA), protein synthesis, cell membrane transport, and signal transduction.

(ATP) The major source of usable energy in cell metabolism; composed of adenine, ribose, and three phosphate groups. On hydrolysis, ATP loses one phosphate and one hydrogen to become adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and releases energy in the process.
